Born in the Arizona desert and raised under the California sun, Asian-American singer/songwriter Stephen Liu brings on the music. Armed with a piano and a computer, Stephen creates melodies inspired by life and living, influenced by artists from all sorts of sounds from Tori Amos to Finger Eleven.
During an attempt at forming a band dubbed Project Waffles with fellow musician Johnny Hwang in high school that ended in a mutual decision to walk separate paths, Stephen was introduced to the music creation software Garageband; after the duo split, Stephen continued to work on his abilities with writing and recording music.
The many years of effort resulted in Stephen's first album Myself and I (available through most digital distributors), an album exploring his own identity both looking towards the future and looking into the past. The very personal album spans many topics. The opening title track looks into indecisiveness and how it throws us off track; closing the album is the inspirational "Finding My Way" that looks into the strength and resilience of the human sprit. From violent shootings ("I Sneeze You") to the adventurous spirit of youth ("Innocence"), from the dangers of ignorance ("Children") to the feelings of broken expectations ("Falling Apart"), Myself and I is an ambitious effort relevant to how many in our generation are affected by their peers and circumstances.
Stephen is currently working on a lot of sets of music and finding outlets to perform.
